Building a Cal king bed

After months of trying to find the perfect California king bed frame with no success, we spontaneously decided to build our own bed. How hard could it be? After running to our local Lowe's store, we bought ply wood, 4x4's, 2x4's etc... and started the project.
Here is the outcome.

1st, we started with the headboard. we got it cut to the size we would like it and attached 2x2's on the edges and the middle to make it sturdy.

After we got done with that, we cut some 4x4's and attached them to the headboard as legs and carried it to our  bedroom. Here is how the headboard looks like with the legs.

We made sure that the legs (4x4's) would support the weight of the headboard and also the 4x2's that we attached later on to the headboard and the leg as the frame of the bed.

Here is a picture of me attaching the 4x2 which is the frame of the bed to the 4x4 which is the leg of the bed.

Here is how the frame ended up looking. also in the picture, there are 2x2's attached to the bottom of the frame on all 3 sides except for the headboard.

Made some bed slats for the mattress.

Once the bed frame was done I bought some mattress toppers from wall-mart for 9$ each and with that I cut and stapled it on the the bed frame. I had some curtains from Ikea which I was not using, and with those I upholstered the whole bed.

Here are the end results.

Also added some trim nails on the headboard 2 inch apart from each other.

The project cost us $250 including the tools we bought and got to keep!
